A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Ron practices general Intellectual Property law with an emphasis on counseling including opinions on validity and infringement; adversarial matters including interferences and oppositions, filing and prosecuting patents in the chemical and pharmaceutical arts, as well as negotiating and preparing license agreements in these fields. Ron currently chairs the CHEMBIO Practice Group at Merchant & Gould. During his 29 years in the pharmaceutical industry, he spent his first five years as a chemist and was involved with developing commercially viable processes for the manufacture of new drugs, including steroids. His patent experience extends to all major areas of therapeutic agents, with particular expertise in preparation and prosecution, litigation, licensing and opposition practice worldwide, especially in the area of antibiotics. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Ron managed the patent department in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for Warner-Lambert Company and was responsible for patent matters and licensing related to the pharmaceutical area of the company with particular focus and service of his client in Ann Arbor, The Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division of Warner-Lambert Company.
