Erin Furlong

Ms. Furlong enrolled in the Joint Degree Program in 2002, beginning with her law studies. She received her JD and MPH in Public Health Administration in December 2005. She previously graduated from the College of St. Benedict with a BA in English and a minor in Political Science. She was awarded the 2002-03 Harold M. Fredrickson Memorial Scholarship and a full tuition waiver from the School of Public Health for her MPH coursework. In Spring 2003 she volunteered with the Minnesota Disability Law Center and in Summer 2003 she clerked for a solo practitioner in St. Louis Park, MN. From 2003-05, she was an Admissions Ambassador for the Law School. She held an Executive Pathways Internship at the Minnesota Department of Human Services in Spring 2004, worked in the Continuing Care for the Elderly and Aging Divisions.

Ms. Furlong earned honors for her participation on the Law School's 2003-04 Maynard Pirsig Moot Court and was a director for the Maynard Pirsig Moot Court in 2004-05. In Summer 2004, she continued working at the Department of Human Services, serving as a Management Analyst working on long-term care financing reform. During the 2005 legislative session, she clerked for the Minnesota State Bar Association's Elder Law Section. She held a 2005 summer internship at the American Bar Association's Commission on Law and Aging in Washington, DC. Her work at the Commission examined trends in state health decisions legislation resulting from the Schiavo case and her article on "Legal Trends in End-of-Life Health Care Decision-Making" in the December 2005 issue of BIFOCAL, the newsletter of the ABA Commission on Law and Aging. In 2005-06 she was a student legal writing instructor.

Ms. Furlong was employed as an Associate General Counsel I at Medica in the Twin Cities through summer 2007. Ms. Furlong is now an Associate Business Attorney at American Medical Systems, a growing medical device company specializing in pelvic health.
